911 Dispatcher (Full-Time)

LOCATION: Baldwin, MI
WAGE RANGE: $43,780.00 – $51,785.00 Annually

Lake County is currently seeking applicants for a 911 Dispatcher. This is a full-time position with generous benefits including medical, dental, vision, short-term disability and life insurance, paid time off, paid holidays, and a retirement plan.

Applicants must be willing to work any shift, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as the Lake County 911 Central Dispatch (LCCD) is a 24 hour/7 day a week operation. Full-time LCCD employees typically work 84 hours over a two-week pay period (80 hours straight-time + 4 hours overtime). Shifts are 12hrs long; two days on and two days off. Once applicants complete training, the opportunity for additional overtime may occur.

This position performs telephone call intake and responds to requests for assistance by dispatching emergency personnel according to established protocols and procedures. Maintains contact with callers and responders to gather and relay information as needed. Provides emergency medical instructions as appropriate. Provides warrants or other information to public safety personnel as requested. Responds to callers with complaints or non-emergency requests by providing information or referrals.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
•  Must be able to type accurately and efficiently with a minimum of 40 wpm

•  Must possess high-level interpersonal skills to respond to callers during often difficult or stressful situations, convey detailed instructions and precise information, maintain effective contacts with responders and other personnel, and work cooperatively with others.

•  Must be able to remain calm under stress and maintain focus under pressure. Must be able to reactappropriately to excited or hysterical callers. Must be able to convey by voice professional demeanor and authoritative command to maintain effective control of emergency situations.

•  Analytical abilities necessary to quickly determine the nature of emergencies and appropriate responses, rapidly react to changing situations, read and interpret maps and detailed policies, and provide precisedirections or instructions.
Basic skills testing, typing, and general aptitude testing are required for all candidates. Pre-employment background investigations, including criminal background checks, drug screening, and physicals are required.

Job Summary
Authorizes requests for warrants as appropriate in accordance with legal standards and requirements. Negotiates pleas and sentencing recommendations with attorneys and defendants to resolve pending criminal cases. Researches and prepares misdemeanor criminal cases for court proceedings, and conducts court appearances. Assists in prosecuting felony, juvenile, and probate cases. Assists in Child Support cases as needed. Drafts motions, briefs and other legal documents. Assumes responsibility for office in absence of Prosecuting Attorney.

Skills

  • Advanced communication skills, in-depth knowledge of law as acquired through a completion of law degree from an accredited law school.
  • Ability to prepare cases and conduct trials, complete legal documents, properly issue warrants with minimal direction and or supervision.
  • Must qualify as Chief Assistant Prosecutor through official appointment, completion of constitutional oath of office, and filing of bond ( if required) in accordance with State statutes.
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills necessary to present cases, negotiate plea agreements, work cooperatively with diverse group of contacts including victims, witnesses, police officers, judges and so forth.
  • High level analytical abilities required in order to understand and evaluate legal issues and implications, thoroughly plan effective trial strategies and presentations, prepare legal documents and make appropriate determinations in authorizing warrants and investigating cases.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Road Patrol Deputy; Full & Part-Time

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for one full-time and multiple part- time Road Patrol Deputy positions.
The 2026 starting wage for the full-time position is $25.46 per hour, $52,957 annual. Top pay is received at year four of service. The 2026 four-year wage is $31.30 per hour, $65,104 annual. The 2026 starting wage for the part-time positions is $25.46 per hour. Part-time employees progress up the wage scale upon the completion of 2080 hours of work.
The Sheriff can request the Board of Commissioners to hire an employee at the two-year wage, based on prior education, training, and experience. The 2026 two-year wage is $27.90 per hour, $58,032 annual for full-time. An applicant being considered for employment will be required to pass an oral board interview, a criminal background check, a psychological examination, a physical examination, and a drug screen. If hired, an applicant must successfully complete a field training program.
 
JOB DESCRIPTION
As a member of the Sheriff’s Road Patrol, a full or part-time Road Patrol Deputy performs general duty police work in the protection of life and property throughout the county. Maintains law and order, prevents crime, deals with complaints, and renders emergency assistance to the public as a uniformed officer. May serve civil papers. Work is performed in accordance with departmental rules and regulations and standard methods and practices. A degree of independent initiative and judgment must be exercised by the employee under emergency conditions. The work may involve an element of danger.
 
REQUIREMENTS
The qualified candidate will have the following knowledge and skills: The ability to quickly learn law enforcement methods, practices and procedures. Ability to gain a good working knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws and to attain efficiency in the methods and practices of criminal investigation expected. Ability to carry out instructions and swiftly adopt an effective and sound course of action, as well as an ability to deal fairly and effectively with the public. Good powers of observation, sound judgment, good moral character, combined with excellent physical and mental condition, courage, strength and the ability to withstand stress required. Proficiency in the use of firearms. Must possess excellent verbal communication skills and be capable of adapting to
potentially violent or unstable situations.
